Free Cover Crop Seed for Iowa FFA Chapters in 2026
We started The Future is Covered in 2021 with a simple idea: give Iowa’s future agriculture leaders the opportunity to actually work with cover crops by giving them the seed to do it.
Since the program began, Iowa Cover Crop has donated more than 1,200 acres worth of cover crop seed to FFA chapters in 56 Iowa counties.
We are excited to launch our sixth year of the The Future is Covered program, providing free cover crop seed to Iowa FFA chapters. Each chapter can receive up to 10 acres of cereal rye or oats, with free shipping or pickup available through a local Iowa Cover Crop dealer.
This means hundreds of opportunities for students to ask questions, try something new and get hands-on experience with a conservation practice they may be making decisions about on their own farms someday.
How to get your free cover crop seed
The program is open to all Iowa FFA chapters. Participating chapters can choose up to 10 acres worth of cereal rye or oats, and Iowa Cover Crop will provide the seed at no cost. Chapters can have their seed shipped for free or arrange pickup with a local Iowa Cover Crop dealer.
The deadline to sign up is October 30, 2026.
